YOUTH SUICIDE IN AUSTRALIAN ENTERTAINMENT (Art of Rebirth: Unlplugged)

Youth Suicide is the number one cause of death for young people aged 15-24 in Australia. I lost my cousin when she was just 14. In response to the epidemic, my Dream Agency (a Modern-Digital Talent Agency), WISE SERPENT DREAM (wiseserpentdream.com), now offers free services as a result (for youth in Australia aged 14-24).

What I didn't realise until 2025 however was that suicide ideation & deaths are worse in the Australian Entertainment Industry. Much, much worse.

I have my first 'unplugged' conversation on this subject (see video below). 'Unplugged' is a behind-the-scenes talk series on The Art of Rebirth (short film series) & podcast series (Art of Rebirth: Conversations with Grace).

THE DATA

Melbourne based non-profit, Entertainment Assist released its findings of the mental health crisis within Australian Entertainment. The extensive survey found that workers in entertainment had:

  • Suicide attempts at MORE THAN DOUBLE that of the general population.
  • Moderate to severe anxiety symptoms at 10 times higher than in the general population.
  • Levels of depression symptoms at five times higher than in the general population.
  • experienced suicide ideation 5-7 times more than the general population and 2-3 times more over a lifetime.

On a Positive Note:

Recent Studies by RAISE Youth Mentoring proved that for every $1 invested in Youth Mentoring, $4.37 are returned in Social Benefits.
